Particle interactions during dry powder mixing and their effect on solvent-free manufactured electrode properties

As solvent -free battery manufacturing evolves from the quest for low energy consumption, the understanding of interactions and behavior of battery materials and their influence on downstream material processability and electrode performance is limited. Dry mixing is a key step in determining mixed powder properties and battery performance. Investigations into the influence of dry mixing conditions on battery material interactions are conducted through two mixing sequences and a series of mixing energies. Dry mixing battery active material and additives improves powder flowability, as indicated by a reduction in the dynamic angle of repose (DAOR). The structure and distribution of additive particles affected by dry mixing directly affect the binder distribution and the establishment of the conductive network, which causes differences in battery performance.
