Abstract
Objective To investigate the association of calcitonin receptor (CTR) gene frequency and CTR genotypes frequency with bone mineral density (BMD) in aged males. Methods BMDs of the hip of 77 males above 60 years old in Shenzhen region were measured by dual energy X-ray absorptiometry(DEXA), afterwards, they were devided into two groups: osteoporosis group and non-osteoporosis group. CTR genotypes were determined by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP). Results The distribution of CTR genotypes in 77 aged males were CC genotype 0.831,CT genotype 0.169, TT genotypes 0, and C gene frequency was 0.916 and T gene frequency was 0.084. More CC genotype was found in non-osteoporosis group and more CT genotype in osteoporosis group. Conclusions Males with CT genotype are susceptible to osteoporosis.
