Frequency Control of an Islanded Microgrid Using Co-Simulation

Incorporating sustainable energy sources into the electricity grid while upholding frequency stability is a crucial aspect of modern energy management. It has been the focus of major attention from the electricity industry and researchers for more than ten years. This research introduces a cosimulation system to assist in microgrids' frequency control. The frequency is controlled by the adjustment function of the Battery Energy Storage System (FMUs in Matlab). A Pythonbased interface allows the remote connection and synchronization of the time step among various software, simulations, or actual equipment from a distance by MQTT Protocol. The co-simulation method to control the frequency is tested and validated in a microgrid by connecting two commonly used software programs, PowerFactory and Matlab. The proposed solution proves the practicality and efficiency of cosimulation from a distance in the grid operation and management.
