A No-Communication Efficiency Optimization Method for Wireless Power Transfer System

Wireless power transfer (WPT) enables automatic-charging of electric vehicles. To avoid problems caused by additional communication devices in EV wireless charging systems, a no-communication control method for WPT system is proposed in this paper to achieve output regulation and efficiency optimization simultaneously. A novel wireless communication-less method utilizing a secondary bypass output mode is developed to make the primary and secondary sides work together. The primary and secondary sides change phase shift and duty cycle respectively to control the output. Meanwhile, a perturbation observation method is applied to the primary phase shift to maximize the efficiency. The proposed wireless no-communication control method to achieve output control and efficiency maximization is verified by simulation and experiment.
