Abstract
•An ultra-high strength and toughness as-cast Mg-Gd-Y alloy was developed via ultrasonic.•The impurity Fe content was obviously reduced.•The growth of Mg3Gd phase and block LPSO phase was hindered.•High Gd/Y/Zn solute atoms can further increase the aspect ratio of the β′ plate.
