Ultrasound-Guided Injection of the Achilles Paratenon: a Cadaveric Investigation

•The paratenon is a richly vascularized and innervated elastic sleeve that plays a pivotal role in the clinical scenario of painful midportion Achilles (para)tendinopathy.•The present cadaveric investigation demonstrates that under ultrasound guidance the lumen of Achilles paratenon can be selectively injected avoiding the Kager’s fat pad, the overlying fascial sheath, and the tendon tissue itself.•In the management of patients with painful midportion Achilles (para)tendinopathy; if clinically indicated, the Achilles paratenon can be selectively/safely injected to optimize the rehabilitation process.
