•Tetra-functional biobased epoxy compound (BPBMO) was synthesized.•Tg of the new biobased epoxy resin (BPBMO/DDM) was up to 407 °C.•The structure–property relationship and mechanism of BPBMO/DDM resin was studied.•Post-crosslinking strategy was setup to get high performance biobased epoxy resin.
