Hierarchical porous Pt/Hβ catalyst with controllable acidity for efficient hydrogenation of naphthalene

•Hierarchical porous Pt/Hβ catalysts with different mesopores-acidity were synthesized.•The mass transfer of reactants and products can be promoted by constructing mesopores in the β zeolite.•The acid strength and distribution of catalysts can affect the distribution of products.•Small Pt species can expose more active sites and produce stronger “electron-deficient” effects.•Pt/Hβ-75 with optimal acid-mesopores-metal equilibrium presents the highest naphthene conversion and decalin yield.
