Abstract
This paper presents the antenna gain improvement of conventional reflector antennas using novel partially reflective surfaces (PRS). The conventional circular open-ended feed horn with 20×20×4 cm 3 flat ground plane and the antenna gain of 11.6 dBi at 9.5 GHz is modified to improve the antenna gain. The PRS cross-slot together with the rectangular slot structures are combined and embedded in the rectangular conducting patch unit cells to increase the antenna gain. Moreover, the conventional center-fed parabolic reflector antenna size of 20×20×18.2 cm 3 with 23.8 dBi gain is employed as the reference antenna. It is found that the proposed antenna length (20×20×5.65 cm 3 ) is shorter than the conventional center-fed parabolic reflector antenna by 3.64 times while an improved antenna gain of 25 dBi is achieved. Moreover, in the case of a conventional circular open-ended feed horn with a flat ground plane, the antenna gain is increased from 11.6 dBi to 25 dBi.
