Reversible thermochromic and heat storage coating for adaptive de/anti-icing and thermal regulation

•A reversible thermochromic phase-transition heat storage coating (TCHSC) containing microcapsules was constructed.•Surface temperature of the TCHSC was regulated by the reversibly self-adjusted discoloration of microcapsules.•Heat can be stored and released through the phase transformation of microcapsules core.•The thermochromic temperature of TCHSC can be tuned by changing the melting point of microcapsules core.
