•Reverse micelles are considered good model of cells, because biomolecules can be dissolved in them.•Hexadecane plays a crucial role in the preparation of reverse micellar solutions.•The integration of high-sensitivity sensors with multi-band capabilities holds immense potential for terahertz sensing.•By combining of THz-TDS with metamaterials, a stronger interaction between terahertz wave and analyte can be achieved.
