Abstract
Synchronous generators are typically used in conventional generation plants to produce electricity. One of the advantages of synchronous machines is that they can handle small disturbances in load because of their high inertia. Renewable energy sources are expected to occupy the place of conventional power sources in the near future owing to increasing power demand, limitations of fossil fuels and environmental issues. Among various RES, photovoltaic solar plants are the most popular and widely used, and it is observed that a little change in load will quickly affect the system’s frequency when the zero-inertial large-scale PV systems are connected to the grid, which will have an impact on the stability of the power system. The goal of this paper is to provide a thorough review of various control approaches for primary frequency control in large-scale PV-integrated power systems. It accomplishes this by presenting an extensive review of research on the operational challenges of power systems with respect to the widespread deployment of PV sources.
