Symbolic interactionism: which impact on the common ground and the therapeutic relationship between patients with type 2 diabetes and their GP. Phenomenological study DEADIEM- part 2

Symbolic interactionism calls to mind reflexivity and self-consciousness favouring an encounter between patient and doctors' perspectives. Working on self-consciousness facilitates working on countertransfe-rence and processes of change. It enables to establish a patient-doctor metacommunication based on their common ground. Symbolic inte-ractionism supports the sense of this common ground integrated in the competences "patient centered care" and "professionalism".
