Instantaneous Symmetrical Components Signal Transformation for Electrical Network Real-Time Co-Simulation Over Unreliable Low Throughput Communication Channels

This work derives an instantaneous signal transformation of three phase electrical signals based on the theory of symmetrical components. Instantaneous transformation is required to meet the intended application to signals transmitted over the communication link between two sections of a Real-time co-simulation split between geographically distant simulation platforms. It is designed to transform line frequency time varying steady state 3 phase signals, whether balanced or unbalanced, into six constant values to mitigate the typical low latency and low throughput nature of the communication channel (mostly public Internet in such applications). The proposed method is validated both numerically and on a real-time co-simulation test-bed.
