Abstract
In this paper, a novel axial-filed flux-modulated permanent magnet (AFFMPM) machine with the split-teeth stators and the consequent-pole rotor is proposed. Such machine is designed especially for in-wheel motor applications due to its compact structure and high torque density. The topology and operation principle of the proposed AFFMPM machine are described. Especially, the development of the proposed topology originating from the axial-field magnetic gear is investigated. By means of the 3D FEA, the electromagnetic performances of the proposed machine are illustrated, in which 108% torque and 166% torque/PM volume are achieved compared with that of the baseline machine. Finally, the proposed machine is manufactured and tested to validate the above analysis.
