Abstract
Most image positioning systems use the static angle of view of the query image and compare it with images containing geographical information in the database to deduce its location. However, in some cases, the location information of the target object in the image is equally important, except for the position of the camera at that time. For example, when a disaster is reported, if an image can be utilized to estimate its precise location, it can replace the inaccurate description of the target point in the report, which will greatly improve the speed of rescue. We propose a three-dimensional positioning system for the point of interest in an image. In order to improve the positioning accuracy, this system integrates the Global Positioning System location and Google Maps data to obtain information regarding the point of interest and infer the three-dimensional coordinate of the target within the user’s sight by triangulation. We have conducted experiments using several known points to achieve a horizontal precision of 1.013 m with a root mean square error of 1.029 m and a vertical accuracy of 0.962 m with a root mean square error of 1.329 m.
