Accurate and semantic 3D reconstruction of maize leaves

•An accurate and semantic 3D reconstruction method of maize leaves has been proposed.•The method converts the 3D leaf into 2D to detect semantic information.•Each vertex can be precisely identified as a semantic point of the leaf mesh.•The Hausdorff and Chamfer distance results shows the reconstruction is accurate.•The reconstructed 3D leaf mesh exhibits enhanced triangular facet consistency.
