Acoustic Noise Reduction and Radial-Force Sum Flattening of Switched Reluctance Motors by Analytical Force Shaping

This paper introduces a novel analytical force-shaping method based on the Heaviside function for radial-force sum flattening in switched reluctance motors. The purpose of the proposed method is suppressing mode 0 vibration and acoustic noise reduction. The proposed method relies on radial force estimation, where the estimated force is compared against a proposed reference radial force. The reference radial-force sum is mathematically devised to be entirely DC and void from harmonics, significantly reducing the vibration and acoustic noise. The proposed method was simulated on model-base design software platforms, and was validated through 3D finite element analysis.
