A Comparative Analysis of Control Strategies Applied to Electrical Traction Systems

This paper compares three types of Direct Torque Control for Induction Machines for vehicular traction applications. The paper analyzes the classic DTC with hysteresis modulation, a modulated DTC with PI controllers and the Predictive Torque Control (PTC), keeping the switching frequency of the controllers as close as possible to 11 kHz. The paper shows simulation and experimental results on torque and flux control for a similar 1.1 kW machine. Results of torque and flux ripple and mean relative error shows a performance advantage of the PTC in both simulation and experimental results. The DTC with PI controllers shows high sensibility to controller gains and operation point, showing the worst experimental results.
