•The effect of secondary orientation on the creep life of thin-walled single-crystal superalloy [111] was studied.•The accumulation and limit of plastic deformation can explain the creep behavior under different secondary orientations.•The relationships among stress state, slip system, micropore growth, and plastic deformation were explained.
