Uric acid to HDL ratio: a marker for predicting incidence of metabolic syndrome in patients with type II diabetes

•The increasing burden of diabetes mellitus worldwide has become a major public health priority.•the role of metabolic syndrome in diabetes mellitus has recently attracted much attention.•Recently UA to HDL ratio has attracted attention, in predicting diabetes mellitus and incidence of metabolic syndrome in type II diabetes individuals.•The results of the present study showed that the prevalence of metabolic syndrome was high in type II diabetes patients.•The level of UHR higher than 8.118% had sensitivity of 70.32% and specificity of 55.08% in diagnosing development of metabolic syndrome in type II diabetes.
