Research on Terahertz Communication System and the Prospect on Space Applications.

Terahertz has been rated as one of the “top ten technologies to change the future world”. It has preeminent transmission characteristics such as large transmission capacity, small terminal size, good transmission security and abundant frequency resources, which is widely used in the fields of detection, detection, medicine and safety monitoring. In recent years, with the rapid development of terahertz sources and power devices, the research of terahertz communication systems has also received wide attention. While terahertz ground communication system is moving towards practical applications, the space application is still in the demonstration stage. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate terahertz communication systems for space applications. Communication properties and characteristics of terahertz waves are introduced in this article, and differences with microwave and laser are analyzed. The space frequency planning is provided, and the technical research progress is reviewed. It provides the prospect for the development of terahertz space communication systems, hoping to promote the research and popularization of terahertz technology in space application fields.
