Abstract
The novel application of the Gorilla Troops Optimization Algorithm for load frequency control of a two-area power system is presented. The algorithm was utilized for the optimization of two PID controller gains, for load frequency control of a two-area power system. The controller gains were optimized during a non-identical dual load decrease. The results were compared to that of PID controller optimized via the Grey Wolf Optimizer. The results indicated that the proposed algorithm exhibited a lower overshoot in both areas 1 and 2, in the order of 18% and 8% respectively. To demonstrate the robustness of the proposed controller, the same optimized controller was subjected to various combinations of load increases and decreases at areas 1 and 2. The results indicated that the proposed algorithm yielded enhanced results for both area 1 and area 2. This was with respect to both overshoot and settling time and reached magnitudes of 17.19% and 125.55% respectively.
