Towards a Model Development Environment Acknowledging Contradicting Dimensions in MDE

USE (UML-based Specification Environment) is a modeling environment that supports UML class, object, sequence, communication and protocol state machine models extended by OCL expressions serving to formulate invariants, pre- and postconditions and queries about UML models. Over the last years, it has been and still is developed at German universities. Its focus and functionalities have concentrated and changed over the years into various different directions. This contribution gives an overview on the various dimensions of the functionalities and purposes and tries to formulate some future perspectives.
