摘要
Though it is mostly accepted that recovery is possible in Schizophrenia, not much is known about its facilitating factors. Previous studies indicate that the facilitators of recovery can vary among individuals. There are very few studies that have explored the facilitators of recovery from patient perspective. The current study aims to explore the facilitators of recovery from the perspective of persons who consider themselves recovered from Schizophrenia. This article presents the findings of a qualitative study in which 20 person who consider themselves recovered/recovering from Schizophrenia were interviewed. A semi structured interview schedule was prepared based on literature review and expert opinion. Data was analyzed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA).Participants identified six factors that significantly helped them to recover from their illness and still helps them to maintain their recovery. These factors include (1) medication (2) support from significant others (3) knowledge about the illness (4) self-determination and optimism (5) lifestyle modifications and (6) spirituality. Embracing a recovery-oriented treatment approach that places emphasis on these factors can enhance patient engagement in the treatment process and lead to improved treatment outcomes.
