Dear Editor, As one of the critical sphingolipid metabolites in eukaryotes,sphingosine-1-phosphate(S1P)acts as a bioactive lipid mediator in the immune and vascular systems.S1P prompts its physiolo-gical roles through two mechanisms,binding to its intracellular targets or extracellular secretion.Intracellular S1P promotes cellular proliferation,whereas plasma S1P facilitates immune cell trafficking,regulates angiogenesis,and helps to maintain vascular integrity.1
