•Ti-Hf-Ni-Cu ribbons demonstrate stable martensitic transformation on thermal cycling.•Crystallization from amorphous state leads to the formation of the sub-micron grains.•One CVP martensite plate appears on cooling in each grain.•High yield stress and formation of one CVP plate may be responsible for stable MT.
