Cooling Design and Thermal Analysis of Flooded High Power Density Machines with Multi Cooling Channels

A new flooded cooling scheme with channels in stator yoke, teeth, slot center and slot opening was proposed. The internal cooling efficiency of the motor is improved, resulting in a significant increase in the power density. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is used to investigate the thermal behavior of the proposed motor. The analysis results indicates that the maximum temperature rise of stator winding reduced 65% compared to the traditional flooded machine. A prototype with single teeth winding has been designed. The thermal test of the prototype proves that the proposed structure has high cooling efficiency.
