Ten Years of Health Informatics Education for Physicians.

Health Informatics (HI) curriculums must be tailored to the specific needs of the students and their career aspirations. Physicians who are interested in HI but who have little to no background in the underlying sciences benefit from exposure to fundamentals and recent advances presented in a manner that both augments and aligns with their clinical experience. New informaticians, like anyone entering a data-centric discipline, greatly benefit from awareness of programming basics and terminology of data analysis. For ten years, NYU has offered a HI course within a ‘boot-camp’ intensive clinical investigation certificate program for physicians interested in developing a career in clinical investigation. With a 100% graduation rate, the program has accelerated the career trajectory of 91 junior to midcareer physicians and continued to attract new students from the same departments.
