Abstract
The active voltage balancing is increasingly important in modern power electronics systems. Among different possible solutions, series resonant balancing converter can utilize soft switching, and hence, allows for a highly efficient operation. This paper analyzes differences between utilizing zero voltage and zero current switching in the operation of the series resonant balancing converter. Additionally, the differences in power losses and the volume of the AC and DC inductor are discussed. The case study of an active voltage balancing of 700 V DC bus is given, together with a prototype example of a series resonant balancing converter.
