VITAL-5G: a novel 5G-enabled platform for vertical innovations in transport and logistics

In this paper we present VITAL-5G platform, a flexible 5G innovative infrastructure that can host Network Applications (NetApps) to optimize the performance and the efficiency of services in the Transport & Logistics (T&L) sector. It is a complete system that comprises hardware, software, and 5G connectivity components that will be implemented in three different trial sites: (i) Antwerp port, (ii) Galati port and (iii) Athens Diakinisis logistics hub. A variety of 5G-enabled NetApps from the VITAL-5G consortium partners, as well as third party experimenters, will be developed to address specific T&L industry challenges. The experimentation services offered by the VITAL-5G facility will allow the third parties to early test and experimentally validate the new features and enhanced performances enabled by the adoption of the 5G technology in their applications and services.
