Hydrogen production by electrolysis

The hydrogen economy has been becoming the new glimmer in the world's economy. Now, “hydrogen-based fuel” is the nucleus of wide-ranging changes in the renewable energy world. “Hydrogen-based fuel” has different formations such as green hydrogen, blue hydrogen, brown hydrogen, and even yellow hydrogen, turquoise hydrogen, and pink hydrogen. These are the widely known nicknames used in the energy industry to separate the forms of hydrogen. Among these various sorts of formation, “green hydrogen” has the reputation of having “zero carbon emissions.” The chapter content is split into a few sections that identify the opportunities and challenges of the hydrogen economy. The first section of this chapter provides an overview of the “hydroeconomic prospects” of the developing energy world in terms of identifying the stages and path of technology innovation. The second section focuses on establishing economic and environmental comparisons between “green hydrogen” and other formations of hydrogen to identify the “opportunity cost of green hydrogen” on the environment. The third section discusses the “economics of electrolysis” with a focus on the most prominent, cost-effective, and environment-friendly production process with a brief comparison with another popular production process of green hydrogen.
