The importance of full-scale experiments for the study of seismic metamaterials

This chapter shows how full-scale experiments have contributed to the development of seismic metamaterials. The link between theoretical seismic cloaking and vibrational energy capture is presented. These theoretical concepts were borrowed from transformation optics and applied to geosciences and towards construction thanks to experiments carried out in full scale in summer 2012. The current nomenclature of seismic metamaterials has grown up and allowed for the emergence of the concept of meta-cities and auxetic materials for buildings.
