Clinical Measures of Visual Performance

This chapter describes the different clinical tests available to measure visual performance in individuals with visual impairment. The tests described cover distance visual acuity, contrast sensitivity, central and peripheral visual fields, colour vision, and potential acuity. The way in which different aspects of reading performance are measured, with a range of tests specifically designed for visual impairment, is given particular attention. Specific tests for children are also described. The way in which the functional effects of visual impairment can be deduced from the results of the tests in various eye diseases is discussed.
