Assessment of image computing methods

For any given medical image analysis algorithm, careful assessment of performance is crucial for a variety of reasons. For example, it is often necessary to evaluate a new algorithm against the previous state of the art, or to compare the performance of existing algorithms in a specific dataset or population to determine the most suitable approach for a given task. This chapter describes methods for objective and quantitative evaluation of image classification, segmentation and registration algorithms.
