Abstract
This study was carried out on the composition and structure of forest vegetation in Achanakmaar Amarkantak Biosphere Reserve in Central India. The density and basal area of forest vegetation ranged from 362.50 to 617.50 stems ha−1 and 23.55 to 31.02 m2 ha−1, respectively. The maximum density was measured on site-I (617.50 stems ha−1) followed by site-II (580 stems ha−1), site-IX (572.50 stems ha−1), and site-III (565 stems ha−1). It was the lowest density measured on site-VII (362.50 stems ha−1). A similar pattern basal area was measured maximum on site-I (31.02 m2 ha−1) followed by site-IX (28.68 m2 ha−1), site-V (27.91 m2 ha−1), and site-II (27.844 m2 ha−1), while the minimum basal area measured on site-VII (23.55 m2 ha−1). The highest density and basal area were recorded on the core zone as compared to the buffer and transitional zone in Achanakmaar Amarkantak Biosphere Reserve in Central India.
