COVID-19 control strategy and measures in Kawasaki City, Japan

Kawasaki City is a government-designated city of over 1.5 million people in the Greater Tokyo area. This chapter provides a brief summary of the public health system in the city before describing the response to the COVID-19 pandemic—highlighting the responses to domestic COVID-19 clusters, the development of laboratory diagnostic capacities, mass vaccination exercises, and an intensive response to Japan’s first domestic case of Omicron, which was detected in the city.
