摘要
The ability to spit liquids at distant targets occurs several times across the animal kingdom. One species of fish, the archerfish, is unique among spitting creatures by its ability to transfer force over considerable distances. This article briefly introduces what makes “spitting” special in this fish, how archerfish manage to adjust their water jets to various distances and levels of target adhesion, how they manage to compensate recoil and how underwater shooting and aerial shooting may have co-evolved.
