The diagnosis of gastrointestinal polyposis syndromes requires a multidisciplinary approach involving pathologists, gastroenterologists, and geneticists.(98) Most hereditary disorders of the gastrointestinal tract present with increased numbers of colorectal polyps of various histologic types and are associated increased risks of cancer. Early diagnosis of these disorders allows appropriate clinical surveillance for the patient and affected relatives.
