Mechanism of manganese bioleaching

Bioleaching has now become a sought-after alternative to conventional metal recovery processes after overcoming several operational and technological hurdles. Bioleaching offers cost-effective, eco-friendly, and operational benefits due to its robustness and minimal use of chemicals during the process. Bioleaching works on the idea of metals being dissolved by oxidising agents produced by microorganisms. Varied group of microorganisms are capable of dissolving metals due to their inherent metal-solubilizing systems, the details of which have been broadly described in this chapter. Understanding the mechanism of the bioleaching process will enable the advancement of research and the creation of more robust and effective technology in the near future.
