Abstract
New theoretical results give a stringent test of Standard Model and second-row CKM unitarity. Precise calculations using lattice QCD yield percent-level determinations of the CKM matrix elements $|{V}_{c\phantom{\rule{0}{0ex}}d}|$ and $|{V}_{c\phantom{\rule{0}{0ex}}s}|$ from the semileptonic decays $D\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\pi}\phantom{\rule{0}{0ex}}\ensuremath{\ell}\phantom{\rule{0}{0ex}}\ensuremath{\nu}$ and $D\ensuremath{\rightarrow}K\phantom{\rule{0}{0ex}}\ensuremath{\ell}\phantom{\rule{0}{0ex}}\ensuremath{\nu}$, respectively, as well as the world's first extraction of $|{V}_{c\phantom{\rule{0}{0ex}}d}|$ from the decay ${D}_{s}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}K\phantom{\rule{0}{0ex}}\ensuremath{\ell}\phantom{\rule{0}{0ex}}\ensuremath{\nu}$.
