Computed tomography (CT) has been the diagnostic mainstay for lung cancer screening and has significantly reduced mortality in high-risk populations. However, malignancy risk stratification using traditional imaging technologies for lung nodules remains a clinical challenge driven by the subjective implementations of nodule management protocols given the different background and expertise of clinicians. There is an unmet need for a similarly non-invasive and objective diagnostic tool which can be used adjunctively with CT for evaluating early cancer risks in lung lesions.
