Abstract
Attention and decision-making are essential for daily activities, such as using attention to ride a bicycle and deciding to check vehicle traffic before crossing an intersection. This article aims to advance our understanding of attention and decision-making. We first discuss cognitive models of attention and decision-making. We then examine the brain areas and networks associated with these processes. We also discuss the importance of attention and decision-making in different clinical populations, including attention deficit disorders, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and substance-related and addictive disorders. Finally, we explore factors influencing attention and decision-making, including incentives and mood.
