摘要
Fish movements link individual physiology and behavior to population-, community-, and ecosystem-level processes. Tracking fish movements is possible through the use of biotelemetry: the insertion or attachment of an electronic tag to an animal that can be used to determine an individual's periodic location or behavior. In estuarine, coastal, and pelagic habitats, acoustic telemetry and satellite telemetry are the most useful technologies for detailing the movements of fishes. The capacity and utility of electronic tracking technologies are system-specific, and their power to test ecological concepts and answer questions of conservation and management concern can be augmented through complementary and parallel use of other methods and tools.
