摘要
The unique layered structure and barrier effects of MXene nanosheets make them an ideal nano-filler for improving the mechanical properties of polymers as well as flame retardancy. Moreover, abundant active sites within MXenes display superior chemical affinity to organic materials compared with other 2D nanomaterials, thus enabling further modification and combination of MXenes with polymer materials. Herein, in this chapter, the aim is to provide a timely and insightful overview for recent advancement in the use of MXene to enhance the flame retardant and mechanical properties of polymers, including the preparation of MXene-based flame retardants and their related mechanism for improving the overall performance. At last, this chapter concludes with a summary and outlook section on future development, as well as challenges that remain, thus providing new research opportunities for material engineering and functional applications of MXene/polymer composites.
