Nanoherbal gel formulations and delivery strategies

Plants or herbs have been used in many different forms like scents, flavors, cosmetics, spices, and therapeutics. A specific phytoconstituent, or a blend of them, from plant extracts, carries herbs’ pharmacological effects. The constituents vary in concentration and strength from batch to batch. This can sometimes lead to toxicity as well due to overdose. A novel drug-delivery system (NDDS) plays an important role in overcoming this issue. Different branches of life sciences such as immunology, toxicology, pharmacology, and medicine are involved in understanding the issues associated with using herbal medicines. The effort is to make them more efficient. Nanoherbal formulations help improve their absorption, bioavailability, sustained release potential, stability, dispersibility, and reduced toxicities. This chapter discusses the different formulations and delivery aspects of nanoherbal gel-based molecules used as therapeutics.
