The Home as Heaven on Earth: A Nigerian Marital Narrative

In literature, despite the wealth of studies on the effect of personality traits, even on the home atmosphere, perspectives to the efficacy of marital counseling are mixed, and there is also the concern relative to the paucity of such research in Nigeria. Thence, this study examined how couples' personality traits and pre-marital education affect and influence respectively the home atmosphere through marriage in Nigeria. We considered seeking an informed opinion from 150 married Nigerian Christian couples with at least ten years of marital experience, through the survey method. Amidst our findings, and similar to studies of Western origin, are leading inferences on how the home could be an environment for character formation, exemplary living, a case, or an ideal reflection of conflict resolution. To this end, we recommend couples strive to deploy innate qualities and or learnings as at when due, in order to make the home atmosphere a little heaven on earth.
