摘要
The durable solutions - of resettlement, return and local integration - were formulated to protect and end displacement for the people displaced during World War II and still displaced in the late 1950s. Since then the importance of the solutions has waxed and waned, but they are still prominent in policy discussions. In the context of protracted displacement, the durable solutions come with particular meanings and expectations, but these expectations are not fulfilled. How can we rethink the durable solutions based on the current reality? Are there ways of changing our current policies and practices that can contribute to alternative and more realistic solutions? This chapter comes out of a conversation between Brun, Fábos, Shuayb and Van Hear on ways to rethink the durable solutions. The discussion introduces and reflects on ideas around home, social science fiction and education in order to develop modes to challenge existing policies and thinking.
