The Department of Dermatology of the University Hospital Basel combines the fields of dermatology, venereology and allergology including clinical immunology. It is characterized by inspired, university-based patient care, research and continuing education. With its 109-year history, the Department of Dermatology offers a broad spectrum of evidence-based options in diagnostics and therapy. Our team continuously explores and integrates the latest options in medical and aesthetic dermatology, allergology, 3D skin cancer screening and Mohs surgery. In addition to the Outpatient Dermatology Clinic, which offers general and emergency consultations, the department has a growing Division of Allergy and a 12-bed Inpatient Dermatology Unit that offers a wide range of modern dermatological treatments. There is also the "Margarethenklinik", established in 2019, which represents a Center for Aesthetics and Reconstruction. Various specialty clinics, a Dermatopathology Unit, a Surgical Unit with two operation theaters, and educational and research activities are also part of the extensive services offered. Our clinical research focuses on inflammatory skin diseases, allergic diseases, and dermatooncology. The Department conducts intensive research in biomedicine and digital dermatology, particularly using AI techniques to analyze skin images. It strives to drive innovation in dermatology and allergology, with a focus on digital solutions and combining medical and aesthetic dermatology.
