Abstract
In this chapter, various prototyping techniques are introduced that can move engineering designs into tangible artifacts. The central theme of the chapter is to create artifacts that can help answer critical design questions that will be used to make future design decisions. Looks-like and works-like prototypes are introduced, as well as standard techniques involving crafting, rapid prototyping, traditional machining, molding, microfluidics, electronics and microprocessors, data acquisition, computational modeling, and smartphone app mock-ups.
